All rights reserved. 19■ Instant messaging (IM)Instant messaging (network service)is a way to send short, simple textmessages to online users.Before you can use instantmessaging, you must subscribe tothe service. To check the availabilityand costs, and to subscribe to theservice, contact your serviceprovider, from whom you alsoreceive your unique ID, password,and settings.To set the required settings for theinstant messaging service, seeConnect. settings in ”Access themenu” p. 19. The icons and texts onthe display may vary, depending onthe instant messaging service.Depending on the network, theactive instant messagingconversation may consume thephone battery faster, and you mayneed to connect the phone to acharger.Access the menuTo access the menu while stilloffline, select Menu > Messages >Instant messages. If more than oneset of connection settings for theinstant messaging service isavailable, select the desired one. Ifthere is only one set defined, it isselected automatically.The following options are shown:Login — to connect to the instantmessaging serviceSaved convers. — to view, erase orrename the instant messagingconversations that you have savedduring the instant messaging sessionConnect. settings — to edit thesettings needed for messaging andpresence connectionConnect to the instantmessaging serviceTo connect to the instant messagingservice, enter the Instant messagesmenu, activate an instant messagingservice, and select Login. When thephone has successfully connected,Logged in is displayed.To disconnect from the instantmessaging service, select Logout.Start an instant messagingsessionOpen the Instant messages menu,and connect to the service. Start theservice in different ways.Conversations — to view the list ofnew and read instant messages orinvitations for instant messagingduring the active instant messagingsession. Scroll to the message orinvitation that you want, and selectOpen to read the message.
