When the operatingtime (talk time and standby time) is noticeably shorter thannormal, it is time to buy a new battery.• Use only batteries approved by the phone manufacturer and7Final version 2/15/99recharge your battery only with the chargers approved bythe manufacturer. When a charger is not in use, disconnectit from the power source. Do not leave the battery con-nected to a charger for longer than a week, since overcharg-ing may shorten its life. If left unused a fully charged batterywill discharge itself over time.• (NiMH batteries only) For optimal operation, discharge thebattery from time to time by leaving your phone switched onuntil it turns itself off. You can also use the battery dis-charge feature of any approved accessory available for yourphone. Do not attempt to discharge the battery by any othermeans.• Temperature extremes will affect the ability of your batteryto charge: allow it to cool down or warm up first.• Use the battery only for its intended purpose.• Never use any charger or battery which is damaged or wornout.• Do not short circuit the battery. Accidental short circuitingcan occur when a metallic object (coin, clip, or pen) causesdirect connection of the + and - terminals of the battery(metal strips on the back of the battery), for example whenyou carry a spare battery in your pocket or purse. Short cir-cuiting the terminals may damage the battery or the con-necting object.• Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, such as in a closedcar in summer or winter conditions, will reduce the capacityand lifetime of the battery. Always try to keep the batterybetween 59º F and 77º F (15º C and 25º C). A phone with ahot or cold battery may temporarily not work, even when thebattery is fully charged. NiMH batteries’ performance is par-ticularly limited in temperatures below 14º F (-10º C). Li-Ionbatteries’ performance is particularly limited in tempera-tures below 32º F (0º C).• Do not dispose of batteries in a fire!• Dispose of used batteries in accordance with any local regu-lations.Cool FeaturesAll the features in your phone are cool.
