The phonesupports multimedia messages thatare up to 45 kB in size. If themaximum size is exceeded, thephone may not be able to receive themessage. Depending on the network,you may receive a text message thatincludes an Internet address whereyou can view the multimediamessage.If the message contains a picture,the phone scales it down to fit thedisplay area.The default setting of themultimedia message service isgenerally on.The appearance of a multimediamessage may vary depending on thereceiving device.Multimedia messaging supports thefollowing formats:• Picture: JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP.• Sound: Scalable Polyphonic MIDI(SP-MIDI) and monophonicringing tones.The phone does not necessarilysupport all variations of theaforementioned file formats. If areceived message contains anyunsupported elements, they may bereplaced with the file name and thetext Object format not supported.Note that you are not able to receiveany multimedia messages if youhave a call in progress, a game oranother Java application running, oran active browsing session over GSMdata (see ”Keying in the servicesettings manually” on page 67).Because delivery of multimediamessages can fail for a variety ofreasons, do not rely solely uponthem for essential communications.Writing and sending amultimedia messageTo set the settings for multimediamessaging, see ”Settings formultimedia messages” on page 31.To check availability and tosubscribe to the multimediamessaging service, contact yournetwork operator or service provider.1.
