Tools106Connection settingsData connections and access pointsThe device supports packet data connections ( ), such asGPRS in the GSM network.Glossary: General packet radio service (GPRS)uses packet data technology where informationis sent in short packets of data over the mobilenetwork. To establish a data connection, an access point is required. You can define different kinds of access points, such as:• MMS access point to send and receive multimediamessages• Access point for the Web application to view WML orXHTML pages• Internet access point (IAP) to send and receive e-mailCheck the kind of an access point you need with yourservice provider for the service you wish to access. Foravailability and subscription to packet data connectionservices, contact your network operator or serviceprovider.Packet data connections in GSM and WCDMAnetworksWhen you use the device in GSM and WCDMA networks, multiple data connections can be active at the same time, access points can share a data connection, and dataconnections remain active during voice calls. To check theactive data connections, see "Connection manager" onpage 98.The following indicators may be displayed below the signalindicator, depending on which network you use:GSM network. Packet data is available in the network.GSM network. Packet data connection is active, data isbeing transferred.GSM network. Multiple packet data connections areactive.GSM network.
