Even though the Nokia9110 Communicator represents the latest development in wireless phonetechnology, using its various communications applications requires that youhave subscribed to these services and that your network operator hasactivated these services for you. Services that need to be subscribed to aretypically the short message service, Internet and fax.Because the number of special services depends on what services are availablein your home network, it is, unfortunately, impossible to provide acomprehensive list of the services and settings you need in this manual.Therefore, this manual gives general information about the additionalservices. Please, contact your network operator for further information aboutthe availability and the details of services in your home network.If a service requires a separate phone number or specific settings, they mustbe stored in the settings of the communicator. For example:Sending and receiving short messages requires that this service is supportedby the network you are using and activated for your SIM card, and that thephone number of the message centre is stored in the settings of the SMSapplication.Internet access requires that data service is supported by the network you areusing and activated for your SIM card. In addition, you must have obtained anInternet access point from an Internet service provider.Access codesThe Nokia 9110 Communicator uses several access codes to protect againstunauthorised use of your communicator and SIM card. The access codes youneed most often are the lock code, which is provided in the sales package, andthe PIN code, which is provided with the SIM card.You can change access codes that are used by both the phone and thecommunicator interface via either of them, provided that the code can bechanged. For more details on the access codes, see ”Security” on page 127.The Internet applications of the communicator use passwords and user namesto protect from unauthorised use of the Internet and its services. Thesepasswords are changed in the settings of the Internet applications.Note: In this manual, the names ofthe commands on the display are inbold and the settings and optionsare in italics.
