Troubleshooting 6-3 1999 Nordson CorporationAll rights reserved 107 962HIssued 11/99Manual 21-19CAUTION: Perform all resistance readings with the electricalpower source turned off. Using an ohmmeter with the powerturned on can cause instrument damage. The following chart provides steps for troubleshooting electrostaticproblems. The baselines referred to in this chart are microammetervalues that you establish when a new power supply and gun are firstinstalled. For complete information about establishing baselines andabout electrostatic problems, refer to the Electrostatic System Checksmanual.Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action1. Open circuit withmicroamp reading morethan 50 microampsabove normal, or erraticmicroamp readingsSystem shorted to ground throughfluid circuit1. Drain the fluid circuit. If conditioncontinues, go to step 2.2. Check the electrostatic cable tobetween the gun and power supplyusing a Nordson kV meter (follow theinstructions provided with the meter).Defective electrostatic cable Replace the electrostatic cable.Power supply problem Refer to the Troubleshooting section inyour power supply manual.2. Open circuit withslightly elevatedmicroamp reading (lessthan 50 microampsabove normal)Change in fluid characteristics If part coverage is correct, check thepaint formulation.Power supply setting is higher thannormalAdjust the power supply setting.3. Microamp reading belownormalPower supply setting lower thannormalAdjust the power supply setting.Open circuit Check the electrostatic cable betweenthe gun and power supply using aNordson kV meter (follow theinstructions provided with the meter).3.
