58 Appendix B: Dialing TranslationFAX Set Up and Operation Guide P0886629 Issue 1.0Telephone number TranslationThe Dialing Translation Table changes Network DNs into numbers that can bedialed on the local network. The Network DN form of a telephone number is thenormal form in which the number appears. For example, on a business card atelephone number would read 403-555-5050. This number, in it’s Network DNform, must be translated into a number that can be dialed on the local telephonenetwork. The Dialing Translation Table follows the rules required to make the call. The Dialing Translation Table needs to define each possible case where somedegree of change is needed to allow the number to be dialed on the local network.Every Dialing Translation Table entry consists of an Input column and an Outputcolumn. The values in the Input column represent the leading digits of the NetworkDN which, if matched, are replaced by the corresponding value in the Outputcolumn. The “*” character shown after a value signifies any digits in the telephonenumber remaining to be dialed. Norstar Voice Mail automatically adds the “*”character after every Input and Output value.Any given telephone number will either match a specific Input value or will notmatch at all.The following three tables are examples of Dialing Translation Tables and how theyfunction.A sample Dialing Translation Table taken from a site located in metropolitanToronto, Ontario.Sample Dialing Translation TableINPUT OUTPUT Explanation011* 011* The Table will not attempt to translate international telephonenumbers.416* * The Table removes the 416 area code and dials all calls as 7digits.905206*90527*etc.(135 moreentries)905206*90527*etc.(135 moreentries)These telephone exchanges can be dialed as local (no longdistance charges) 10 digit calls from the 416 area.905* 1905* All other 905 numbers not listed in the Input column aboveare long distance numbers and must be dialed as 11 digitlong distance numbers.* 1* All numbers that do not begin with 011, 416 and 905 arelong distance, and will have a “1” added as a prefix.
