Upgrading OES 2 Linux Clusters453novdocx (en) 7 January 20104Upgrading OES 2 Linux ClustersYou can upgrade a Novell® Open Enterprise (OES) 2 Linux (or later) cluster to OES 2 SP2 Linux. This section describes the upgrade process and how to manage the temporarily mixed cluster duringthe upgrade. Section 4.1, “Requirements for Upgrading Clusters,” on page 53 Section 4.2, “Upgrading OES 2 Clusters (Rolling Cluster Upgrade),” on page 53 Section 4.3, “Upgrade Issues for OES 2 SP2,” on page 544.1 Requirements for Upgrading ClustersMake sure your environment meets the requirements for installing Novell Cluster Services that aredescribed in Section 3.1, “System Requirements for Novell Cluster Services,” on page 27.4.2 Upgrading OES 2 Clusters (Rolling ClusterUpgrade)Performing a rolling cluster upgrade on your OES 2 Linux cluster lets you keep your cluster up andrunning. Your users can continue to access cluster resources while the upgrade is being performed.During a rolling cluster upgrade, one server is upgraded to OES 2 SP2 Linux while the other serversin the cluster continue running older versions of OES 2 Linux. Then, if desired, another server canbe upgraded, and then another, until all servers in the cluster have been upgraded. You can also add OES 2 SP2 Linux servers to the existing OES 2 Linux (or later) cluster, andremove the old ervers from the cluster. You should complete the upgrade as soon as possible. Don’t leave the cluster in a mixed versionstate for an extended period.Make sure that any services that are available only in OES 2 SP1 or later (such as Novell CIFS orNovell AFP) are set up with preferred nodes for failover that are running OES 2 SP1 or later.Consider the following issues when working with a mixed-release OES 2 cluster: OES 2 SP1 features that are not available for the OES 2 Linux: Novell AFP for Linux Novell CIFS for Linux 64-bit eDirectory 8.8.4 support Domain Services for Windows support NSS /(No)atime option NSS /PoxixPermissionMask option NSS /UnplugAlways option The NSS default namespace on OES 2 SP1 Linux was changed to Long. This is not a problemfor existing pools, but you should be aware of the difference when creating pools on OES 2nodes versus OES 2 SP1 (or later) nodes.
