23Getting started1Inserting a card“Card” in this manual refers to a recording medium. This camera can use a CompactFlash or Microdrive (optional). You can also use xD-Picture Card with a card adapter(optional).Precautions when using a MicrodriveA Microdrive is a medium that uses a compact hard disk drive. Because the diskdrive rotates, a Microdrive is not as resistant to vibration or impact as other cards.Special care is needed when using a Microdrive (especially during recording andplayback) to make sure the camera is not subjected to shock or vibrations. Be sureto read the following precautions before using a Microdrive. Also, refer to themanuals provided with your Microdrive.• Be very careful when putting the camera down during recording. Place it gentlyon a firm surface.• Be careful not to hit the camera against anything when carrying it by the strap.• Do not use the camera in places subject to vibrations or excessive shock, such asat a construction site or in a car while driving along a bumpy road.• Do not take a Microdrive close to areas where it may be exposed to strongmagnetism.• Microdrives confirmed for use with this camera (as of July, 2003):Hitachi/IBMDSCM-1100 (1 GB)DSCM-10512 (512 MB)DSCM-10340 (340 MB) Compact FlashA Compact Flash is a large-capacitysolid state flash memory card. You canuse commercially available cards. MicrodriveA Microdrive is a medium that uses alarge-capacity compact hard diskdrive. You can use a Microdrive thatsupports CF+Type II (Compact Flashextension standard).
