84 ENCaution for Usage EnvironmentTo protect the high-precision technology containedin this product, never leave the camera in theplaces listed below, no matter if in use or storage:Places where temperatures and/or humidityare high or go through extreme changes.Direct sunlight, beaches, locked cars, or nearother heat sources (stove, radiator, etc.) orhumidifiers.In sandy or dusty environments.Near flammable items or explosives.In wet places, such as bathrooms or in the rain.When using products with weatherproof designs,read their manuals as well.In places prone to strong vibrations.Never drop the camera or subject it to severeshocks or vibrations.When mounted on a tripod, adjust the position ofthe camera with the tripod head. Do not twist thecamera.Do not touch electric contacts on cameras.Do not leave the camera pointed directly at thesun. This may cause lens or shutter curtaindamage, color failure, ghosting on the CCD, ormay possibly cause fires.Do not push or pull severely on the lens.Before storing the camera for a long period,remove the batteries. Select a cool, dry locationfor storage to prevent condensation or mold fromforming inside the camera. After storage, test thecamera by turning it on and pressing the shutterbutton to make sure that it is operating normally.Always observe the operating environmentrestrictions described in the camera’s manual.•••••••••••••Battery Handling PrecautionsOlympus NiMH batteries (included in some areas)are intended for use only with Olympus digitalcameras. Never use these batteries with any otherdevice.Always charge NiMH batteries (included in someareas) before using them for the first time, or ifthey have not been used for a long period.Always charge sets of batteries (included in someareas) (2 or 4) together.Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutelynecessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries mayhave a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkalinebattery performance is limited, especially atlow temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries isrecommended.AA manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries cannot beused with this camera.When operating the camera with battery powerat low temperatures, try to keep the cameraand spare batteries as warm as possible.Batteries which run down at low temperaturesmay be restored after they are warmed at roomtemperature.Recommended temperature ranges for NiMHbatteries:Operation ................... 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F)Charge ....................... 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F)Storage.......................-20°C to 30°C (-4°F to 86°F)Using, charging or storing the batteries outsidethese ranges could shorten battery life or affectbattery performance. Always unload the batteriesfrom the camera before storing the camera for along period.Before using NiMH or NiCd batteries, always readthe provided instructions.The number of pictures you can take may varydepending on the shooting conditions or batteries.Before going on a long trip, and especially beforetraveling abroad, purchase an ample supply ofextra batteries.
