7Features of the VTR unitDigital systemThe pictures are compressed by a component digitalrecording system that uses the latest compressiontechnology while non-compression PCM recordingfeaturing excellent signal-to-noise ratio, frequencyband, waveform characteristics and reproduction ofdetailed areas is employed for the sound. The resultis an even higher picture and sound quality.Power saving management (SAVE REC) functionWhen this unit is used for recording, its playbacksystem circuitry is shut down. The output of signals tothe HD SDI OUT connector is also shut down whenthe cable has not been connected so that the unit’spower can be conserved while the unit is beingoperated.Scene-to-scene continuitySimply by pressing the VTR START button or lensVTR button, continuity between the scenes isobtained at a precision of 0 to +1 frame.Rec review functionThe last 2 to 10 seconds of a recording areautomatically rewound and played back to enable theuser to quickly check what has been recorded.Playback functionThis function enables the playback picture (in blackand white) to be viewed on the viewfinder screen.Color playback pictures can be output from the HDSDI OUT connector.Built-in time code generator/readerThe same or separate time code information can berecorded on the dedicated sub-code track and videoAUX area, and played back.External locking of time codeThe built-in time code generator can be locked to anexternal generator. A lithium battery is used as thebackup power supply of the built-in time codegenerator to back up the memory data for about ayear even when no power is supplied to the unit.Built-in DOLBY NR systemThe cue audio recording circuitry contains a Dolby Bnoise reduction circuit.Audio functionsO A phantom power supply type of microphone(optional accessory) with sharp directivitycharacteristics can be attached. It can also bedetached from the unit for use as an interviewmicrophone.O Other kinds of microphones can also be connectedand, using the model AJ-MH700P microphoneholder (optional accessory), attached to the unit.NEWS REC functionThis function especially supports shooting in thecontext of news gathering or documentary filming toensure that no opportune shutter opportunities arepassed up.In other words, by controlling the start keyacknowledgment time, the unit can continuouslyrecord without the user having to interrupt therecording: this safeguards against the failure to recordthose precious moments—a failure that occurs whenrecording is resumed after it has been shut downtemporarily.RETAKE functionThis function is for not leaving behind superfluous cutswhen a cut turns out to be no good during theshooting of news, reports or art programs.Users should remember to handle this function verycarefully. If there is enough leeway in the shooting time and aparticular cut is clearly judged to be no good, the tapeis rewound to the start of the cut concerned and therec pause (rec standby) mode is established byoperating the MODE CHECK button and lens RETbutton. Since recording is now commenced from thatpoint on the tape, the no-good cut will be deleted. Inorder to prevent the cut prior to the no-good cut frombeing deleted, a part of the no-good cut equivalent toten or so frames is left behind.By cutting down on the time taken for copying onto thework tape, for instance, this function is very effectivein achieving economical operation.INTERVAL REC functionThis function makes simple interval shooting possible. It proves to be very effective when shooting programswith a nature theme or art programs.FeaturesODolby noise reduction manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation.O“DOLBY” and the double-D symbol Î are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories Licensing Corporation.
