16RQT8307 Getting startedSTEP 2 Setting up the TV Guide On ScreenTM systemAfter plugging the unit into your household AC outlet and pressing[Í DVD POWER] to turn the unit on for the first time, the unit startsTV Guide On Screen TM system setup.IMPORTANT: The TV Guide On ScreenTM system must besetup whether it is then used or not. You cannot use thescheduled recording feature unless this setup is completed.If you receive your programming solely from a satelliteservice, do steps 1-3 and “Set Clock Manually ” (➡ 17).The program guide in this unit will not receive programlistings or channel information. Without thisinformation, program-based recordings cannot bemade. However, recordings can still be set manually.[Note]If you do not want to use TV Guide On ScreenTM system,perform steps 1-3 and “Auto channel/clock settings” (➡ 57)PreparationTurn on the television and select the appropriatevideo input to suit the connections to this unit.≥When using the cable TV box, check the following.–Make sure the IR Blaster is connected and positioned properly(➡ 13).–Make sure the cable TV box is turned on.1 Press [Í DVD POWER].2 Following the on-screen messages,input the operating environment foryour television.≥Move the cursor using [3, 4, 2, 1] and press [ENTER]to confirm.≥Press the numbered buttons to enter numbers.≥Press [ENTER] to advance to the next screen.≥Refer to the instructions on the bottom of the screen.Set the following;≥Country (USA/Canada)≥Postal code≥Cable service connected to this unit (Yes/No)When “No” is selected, a confirmation screen is displayed (➡ 17,“The set contents are displayed together”).≥Cable TV box connected to this unit (Yes/No)When “No” is selected, a confirmation screen is displayed (➡ 17,“The set contents are displayed together”).If you do not want to use the TV Guide On Screen TM systemSelect “No” at this point even if a cable TV box is connected.If you are using a cable TV box, set the following:≥Cable TV box connection channel (Ch2/Ch3/Ch4/IN3)–If you are connecting the cable TV box to this unit’s IN3 terminal,select “IN3”.–If you are connecting the cable TV box to this unit’s RF terminal,select “Ch2”, “Ch3” or “Ch4”, according to the cable TV boxsetting.≥Cable TV box brand–Move down with [4] for more brands.–You can also press [PAGE W] or [PAGE X] to skip one page.–Select “Not Listed” if you cannot find your brand on the list.≥IR signal codeMake sure your cable TV box is set to the channel that appearson screen and press [ENTER].The unit begins trying various IR codes to see which onecommunicates properly with your cable TV box. It’s quite commonfor this phase of the setup to be repeated numerous times.Only English is displayed in the TV Guide On ScreenTMsystem. Other languages cannot be displayed.TV Guide On Screen TM systemThis unit features the TV Guide On Screen TM system thatprovides an 8-day grid of TV programs available in your area.Use the TV Guide On Screen TM system to choose TV programsand simplify the recording of your favorite TV shows (➡ 24, 28,29). Best of all this service is free!≥The first time you download listings, you will receive the firstfew days of listings; however, not all 8 days. Listings for 8 daysshould be received within a few days.≥In order to cool the circuits used when downloading thetelevision program list, the cooling fan may sometimes operatewhen the unit is turned off.
