If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the solutionsindicated in the chart do not solve the problem, consult your dealer for instructions.No power.The unit does not turn on pressing [Í].¾ Insert the AC mains lead securely into a known activehousehold mains socket. (> 11)¾ Linked timer recordings with external equipment is inrecording standby (“EXT-L” on the unit’s display blinkswhen [Í] is pressed). Press [EXT LINK] to cancel therecording standby. (> 31)¾ Check the fuse in the plug.The unit switches to standby mode.The unit is turned off automatically.¾ One of the unit’s safety devices is activated. Press [Í/I] onthe main unit to turn the unit on.¾ If you connected this unit to an “HDAVI Control” compatibleTV with an HDMI cable, or connected this unit to a Q Link-compatible TV with a fully wired 21-pin Scart cable, this unitwill be automatically set to standby mode when the TV isset to standby mode. (> 46)This unit turns off when the TV input is switched.¾ This is a normal phenomenon when using VIERA Link(HDAVI Control 4 or later). For details please read theoperating instructions for the TV.The display is dim.¾ Change “Unit’s Display” in the Setup menu. (> 69)“0:00” is flashing on the unit’s display.¾ Set the clock. (> 14)The time recorded on the disc and the available timeshown do not add up.The displayed time of this unit is different from theactual recording time or MP3 recording time.¾ Times shown may disagree with actual times.¾ [-R] [-R]DL] [+R] [+R]DL] The remaining capacity does notincrease even if titles are deleted.¾ Available space on a DVD-RW (DVD-Video format) or +RWdisc increases when you delete the last title (space mayincrease slightly when you delete other titles).¾ If you record or edit about 200 times or more, the remainingcapacity of DVD-R, DVD-R DL, +R, and +R DL is reducedand then recording or editing may be disabled (for thesecond layer on DVD-R DL and +R DL, this happens afterabout 60 times).¾ The time during searching may not be displayed accurately.The clock is not correct.¾ Under adverse reception conditions, etc., the automatic timecorrection function may not work. In this case, “Automatic” isautomatically turned to “Off”. If re-setting the Auto ClockSetting does not work, set the time manually. (> 14)Compared to the actual recorded time, the elapsedtime displayed is less.(Only when recording in NTSC)¾ The displayed recording/play time is converted from thenumber of frames at 29.97 frames (equal to 0.999 seconds)to one second. There will be a slight difference between thetime displayed and the actual elapsed time (e.g., actualone-hour elapsed time may display as approximately 59minutes 56 seconds). This does not affect the recording.The tape counter is not changing.¾ The tape counter does not change while playingunrecorded parts. The “second” display changes as follows:(e.g., Blank after 1 h 36 min)¾ The unit’s display also appears like this if the tape is dirty ordamaged.Consult your dealer if this is the case.The clock does not display on the unit whenswitched to standby.¾ Ensure “Power Save in Standby” is deactivated. (> 72)The following does not indicate a problem with the unit:≥ Regular disc/video cassette rotating sound.≥ Poor reception due to atmospheric conditions.≥ Image disturbance during search.≥ Periodic interruptions to the reception due to digital satellite broadcasting breaks.≥ Operations are slow to respond when “Power Save in Standby” is activated.≥ Operations are not working due to a poor-quality disc. (Try again using a Panasonic disc.)≥ The unit freezing due to the activation of one of its safety devices (> 82, To restore the unit if it freezes).≥ When the unit is turned on or off, there may be an unexpected sound.General Issues: Power General Issues: Displays
