Making/Answering Calls17Temporary handset ringer offWhile the handset is ringing for a call, you canturn the ringer off temporarily by pressing {~}.Adjusting the base unit ringer volumePress {+} or {-} repeatedly to select thedesired volume.L To turn the ringer off, press and hold {-}until the unit beeps.Useful features during acallHoldThis feature allows you to put an outside callon hold.1 Press {MENU} during an outside call.2 {r}: “Hold” s {SELECT}3 To release hold, press {C}.L Another handset user can take the callby pressing {C}.Note:L If a call is kept on hold for more than 9minutes, an alarm tone starts to sound andthe ringer indicator on the handset flashesrapidly. After 1 additional minute on hold,the call is disconnected.L If another phone is connected to the sameline, you can also take the call by lifting itshandset.MuteWhile mute is turned on, you can hear theother party, but the other party cannot hearyou.1 Press {MUTE} during conversation.L {MUTE} flashes.2 To return to the conversation, press{MUTE} again.Note:L {MUTE} is a soft key visible on the handsetdisplay during a call.Flash{FLASH} allows you to use the specialfeatures of your host PBX such as transferringan extension call, or accessing optionaltelephone services.Note:L To change the flash time, see page 23.For Call Waiting or Visual CallWaiting service usersTo use Call Waiting or Visual Call Waiting, youmust first subscribe with your service provider/telephone company.This feature allows you to receive calls whileyou are already talking on the phone.
