The library’s scanner automatically readsthe barcode on new cartridges imported into the library.|This topic focuses on using the library user interface, not the hostapplication, to import media. Using the library to import media maynecessitate performing an inventory of the library with the hostapplication. See your host application documentation for moreinformation.When manual cartridge assignment is enabled (the default setting), youcannot import cartridges until you have assigned them to a partition.After you have loaded the cartridges into the I/E station and closed theI/E station door, the Assign IE screen automatically appears on theoperator panel. The Assign IE screen prompts you to use the operatorpanel to assign the cartridges to a specific partition or to the systempartition. The cartridges can be used only by the assigned partition.Administrative users can disable manual cartridge assignment. In thiscase, the Assign IE screen does not appear on the operator panel. Thecartridges in the I/E station are available for use by any partition,including the system partition. For more information, seeDisabling/Enabling Manual Cartridge Assignment on page 70.Before importing cartridges, verify that all tape drives are unloaded andthat all cartridges are in their appropriate storage slot locations. Doingthis will avoid over-loading the library with cartridges.Note: The information and procedures in this User’s Guide applyspecifically to the library web client and the operator paneluser interface, not to the host application. Performing mediaoperations through the library user interface may affect yourhost application. See your host application documentation forinformation.Note: If your library has zero I/E station slots, you cannot import orexport media. See Configuring I/E Station Slots on page 73.
