116and burner should stop firing. Fanwill go into a post purge, then shutsoff.2. Control Safety Shutdown test: withthe burner firing, close the manualgas shut off valve (Figure 14-1).Gas valve should close and burnershould stop firing. The boiler will tryfor ignition five times, then shouldlock out with a “Loc 1” error shownon the display. Open the manualgas shut-off valve, and verify yourgas meter. Gas flow must be zero .WARNING!!!WARNING!!! If gas flowoccurs, close the manual gasshutoff valve and troubleshootthe system to determine whythere is gas flow when the gasvalve should be deenergized.Do not operate the boiler untilthe problem is resolved or a fireor explosion causing propertydamage, personal injury or lossof life may occur!3. Press the “Reset” key to return tonormal operation.17.1.6 - Check ignitionand flame senseelectrodes1. Remove the fan-burner assemblyunit (see Section 17.3);2. Remove any deposits accumulatedon the ignition/flame senseelectrode using sand paper;3. Check electrodes positioning meetSection 17.4.17.1.7 - Check wiring andconnectionsInspect all heater wiring, makingsure wires are in good condition andsecurely attached.17.1.8 - Performperformance verification.1. Run the unit at maximum inputfollowing Section 15.9. When insteady state, check the efficiencyusing as per recognized methods.Efficiency shall be not less than88%.2. Verify cold water pressure is correctand that operating pressure doesnot go too high (could be a problemon the expansion tank).from meter to appliance includingall pipes and fittings and heaterconnection. Use liquid soap solutionfor all gas testing.WARNING!!!WARNING!!! Do not checkfor gas leaks with an openflame. Use the bubble test.Failure to use the bubble testor check for gas leaks withan open flame can causeexplosion, severe personalinjury, death, or substantialproperty damage.17.1.3 - Verify flue and airlines in good conditionand sealed tight;1. Check for obstruction, condensation, corrosion andphysical damage, water stains, anysigns of rust, other corrosions orseparation of the vent and air intakepiping.2. Check outside terminations.Screens and louvers should be freeof any debris and must be cleanedas required.17.1.4 - Check systemwater pressure/systempiping/expansion tank;1. Check water piping and accessoriesfor leaks. Slightest leaks should becorrected.2. Check the system to be full of waterand pressure to remain stable atcorrect setting on gauge.CAUTION!!! Eliminate allsystem or heater leaks.Continual fresh makeup waterwill reduce heater life. Mineralscan build up in sections, reducing heat transfer, overheating heat exchanger, and causing heat exchangerfailure. Leaking water mayalso cause severe propertydamage.17.1.5 - Check controlsettings1. Set heaters setpoint low enough toend call for heat (see Sections 16.6and 16.7. Gas valve should closeWARNING!!!WARNING!!! Never storecombustible materials, gasolineor any product containingflammable vapors and liquidsin the vicinity of the heater.Failure to comply with thiswarning can result in extensiveproperty damage, severepersonal injury or death!WARNING!!!WARNING!!! Neverobstruct the flow of combustionand ventilation air. Failure toprovide adequate combustionair for this heater can resultin excessive levels of carbonmonoxide which can result insevere personal injury or death!WARNING!!!WARNING!!! Ifmaintenance is performed onthe vent-air intake system itmust be properly reassembledand sealed. Failure to properlymaintain the vent-air systemcan result in excessive levelsof carbon monoxide which canresult in severe personal injuryor death!WARNING!!!WARNING!!! Beforeperforming any maintenanceoperations, shut the heateroff, close the manual gasshut-off valve (Figure 14-1)and shut electrical poweroff to the heater. Follow theOperating Instructions outlinedin the section “SAFETYINSTRUCTIONS” (Page 3 of thismanual).17.1.1 - Address reportedproblemsInspect any problems reported by theowner and correct before proceeding.17.1.2 - Check all pipingfor gas leaks1. Inspect all gas piping and verify tobe leak free.2. Check for gas leaks: using soapsolution, check for gas leaks17 - MAINTENANCE
