Pipe the relief valve discharge likeon Figures 7-1 or 7-2 to prevent scalding in the event of adischarge.Pipe the discharge of the safety relief valve to a suitabledrain. Provide piping that is the same size as the safety reliefvalve outlet.WARNING!!!WARNING!!! Failure to properly pipe the reliefvalve discharge can result in scalding of individualsand animals.WARNING!!!WARNING!!! Never install any type of valvebetween the boiler and the relief valve or anexplosion causing extensive property damage, severe personal injury or death may occur!WARNING!!!WARNING!!! Never block or plug the outletof the safety relief valve or an explosion causingextensive property damage, severe personal injuryor death may occur!7.2.3 - Expansion Tank and MakeupWaterInstall an expansion tank. Ensure the expansion tank isproperly sized for the boiler volume (See Section 16, header“Content of water”) and the system volume, temperature andpressure.CAUTION!!! Undersized expansion tanks will causesystem water to be lost through the pressure reliefvalve and cause additional makeup water to beadded to the system. Eventual boiler failure canresult due to this excessive makeup water addition, compromising the functionality of the unit. The expansion tank must be located as shown in Figures7-4 and 7-5 when using a primary/secondary pipingarrangement or as per recognized design methods. Refer tothe expansion tank manufacturer instructions for additionalinstallation details.Connect the expansion tank to an air separator only if the airseparator is located on the suction side (inlet) of the systemcirculator.Always locate and install the system fill connection at thesame location as the expansion tank connection to thesystem.HGL020010.01.008F EHLFEGHFEGHG020009.01.009Figure 7-1 Piping the relief valvedischarge on models 199Figure 7-2 Piping the relief valvedischarge on models 399 up to 1000
