These cap-tions are usually subtitles for the hearing impaired or foreign-language translations. All VCRs recordthe closed caption signal from television programs, so home-recorded video tapes also provide closedcaptions. Most DVDs and pre-recorded commercial video tapes provide closed captions as well. Checkfor the closed caption symbol in your television schedule and on the tape’s packaging: . In caption mode, captions appearat the bottom of the screen, and theyusually cover only a small portion of thepicture.In text mode, information unrelated tothe program, such as news or weather,is displayed. Text often covers a largeportion of the screen.Different channels and fieldsdisplay different information: Field 2carries additional information thatsupplements the information in Field 1.(For example, Channel 1 may havesubtitles in English, while Channel 2 hassubtitles in Spanish.)1Press the MENU button todisplay the menu.Press the DOWN arrowbutton to select theFunction icon.
