The following listdescribes the items on the Channel Banner screen (left to right and topto bottom). Other displays that are not shown are self-explanatory.The icons change appearance to show the item’s status or availability.VGA Displays the current input you’re viewing. Displays the currentchannel when you’re watching TV.Mute Icon Displays when you mute the sound.Sleep 20 min. Corresponds to the SLEEP button. Shows how muchtime is set before the TV turns off.Volume Displays the level of the volume when you press theVOL + or - button. The volume level has 100 steps.Parental ControlsThe choices in the Parental Control menu involve software insideyour TV (referred to as V-Chip) which lets you block TV programsand movies based on violence, sex, or other content you may believechildren should not view. Once you block programs, you or otheradults can unblock programs by entering a password.By default, the software inside your TV is turned “off,” so if you don’twant to use this feature, you can just ignore it.The first time you enter the Parental Control menu, a password screenappears. Enter the default password 1111. If you want to change yourpassword, highlight Change Pwd. and press OK. Then use the numberbuttons to enter the on-screen information and press the down arrowbutton to highlight the next entry and a confirmation screen appearswhen it’s complete. CONTROLMAIN MENUHow V-Chip WorksThe V-Chip software reads a code that most broadcasters send with programs. That codetells the software the program’s age-based rating (TV-MA, TV-14, etc.) and content themes[(Violence (V), Adult Language (L), etc.)]. If you have blocked the rating and/or content themesthat the program contains and you tune to a program whose rating exceeds the rating limit youset, you will receive a message telling you that the program is not approved for viewing.Broadcasters are not required to provide content themes, so programs received with no contentthemes will only be blocked if you block their age-based rating. You can also block out programsthat have been given a rating of Not Rated, and programs that are considered unrated.
