For the longest operation and bestperformance, we recommend alkaline batteries. If youuse rechargeable batteries, we recommend nickel-metalhydride (Ni-MH) batteries.Use the black battery holder for non-rechargeablebatteries. Use the yellow holder for rechargeablebatteries.w Warning: Never install non-rechargeable batteriesin the rechargeable yellow battery holder. Non-rechargeable batteries can get hot or explode if you tryto recharge them.To install batteries1. Slide open the battery compartment cover on theback of the scanner.2. Place 4 AA batteries into the correct battery holdermatching polarity symbols (+ / –):Black – Alkaline (non-rechargeable)Yellow – Rechargeable Ni-MH or Ni-Cd. Place the battery holder into the batterycompartment. The battery holder fits only one way.Do not force it.4. Replace the cover.Rechargeablebatteries (yellowholder)Alkaline or non-rechargeablebatteries (blackholder)b Battery Notes:• When battery power is low, B appears and thescanner beeps continuously. When battery power isdepleted, the scanner turns itself off.• You must charge rechargeable batteries before youuse them the first time.• Do not allow any metal objects such as key rings,necklaces, etc. to touch the (+) and (–) terminalswhen the battery holder contains batteries. Do notcarry or store the battery holder with metal objects.• Use only fresh batteries of the required size andrecommended type. Do not mix old and newbatteries, different types (alkaline or rechargeable),or rechargeable batteries of different capacities.Doing so can damage the batteries, causingchemicals or lead leaks, fire, or explosions.
