Card 8continued ...Planned courseD11122-1Operating modesWhen you first switch on your system, your autopilot is in Standby mode. This means thatyou have full manual control, and the autopilot has no control over your boat. To enable theautopilot to steer your boat, you need to use one of the autopilot control modes.Autopilot control modesAuto mode gives the autopilot basic steering control over your boat. The autopilot steersyour boat on a fixed heading that you determine.Other modes in which the autopilot has control are:• Track mode is available where GPS information is available on your system. The autopi-lot steers the boat on a pre-determined course defined by waypoints. (Refer to Card 10).• Wind Vane mode is available on SAIL BOATS ONLY, if Wind information is available.The autopilot maintains a fixed course with respect to the wind. (Refer to Card 11).• Fishing patterns are available on FISHING BOATS ONLY. The autopilot navigates theboat according a pre-programmed pattern. You can select the pattern you want andchange the pattern parameters. (Refer to Card 12).Using your autopilot in Auto modeWARNING: Autopilot safetyDo NOT engage your autopilot until youare sure it is safe to do so.ImportantTo return to manual steering at any time, press STANDBY on yourPilot Controller keypad.To use your autopilot to steer your boat.1. Manually steer your boat onto the heading youwant.2. If necessary, engage the autopilot clutch (referto the operating guide supplied with your autopilot system).3. Ensuring you have enough clear water in the direction of travel, press AUTO on your PilotController keypad, to enter Auto mode. The autopilot then steers your boat on the headingyou have chosen.If necessary, use the keypad controls to change course when running in Auto mode:• On a sail boat use either -1 or -10 to turn to port, or +1 or +10 to turn to starboard.• On a power boat turn the Rotary Control either clockwise to turn to starboard, or coun-terclockwise to turn to port.
