Regency ® P36D-1 Zero Clearance Direct Vent Gas Fireplace 33INSTALLATIONDiagram 46) The arrow on the vent cap shouldbe pointing up. Insure that the 1-1/2"clearances to combustible materialsare maintained (Diagram 4). Install thetermination cap.NOTE: For Snorkel terminations in ABOVEgrade installations, follow nationalor local code requirements.Below Grade InstallationIf the Snorkel Termination must be installedbelow grade, i.e. basement application, properdrainage must be provided to prevent waterfrom entering the Snorkel Termination. Referto Diagram 4. Do not attempt to enclose theSnorkel within the wall, or any other type ofenclosure.*Diagrams 3 & 4: As specifi ed in CGA B149Installation Code. Local codes or regulationsmay require different clearances.Diagram 1b) Horizontal runs of vent must besupported every three feet. Wall strapsare available for this purpose.5) Mark the wall for a 10" x 10" square hole. Thecenter of the square hole should line up withthe centerline of the horizontal pipe. Cut andframe the 10 inch square hole in the exteriorwall where the vent will be terminated. If thewall being penetrated is constructed of non-combustible material, i.e. masonry block orconcrete, a 7"(178mm) dia. (7-1/2"(191mm)dia. for flex) hole is acceptable.Diagram 2Notes:a) The horizontal run of vent must be level,or have a 1/4 inch rise for every 1 footof run towards the termination. Neverallow the vent to run downward. Thiscould cause high temperatures and maypresent the possibility of a fire.b) The location of the horizontal venttermination on an exterior wall must meetall local and national building codes, andmust not be blocked or obstructed. ForExternal Vent Terminal Locations, seeExterior Vent Termination Location.c) Snorkel Terminations:For installations requiring a verticalrise on the exterior of the building, 14-inch and 36-inch tallSnorkel Terminationsare available, as wellas the standard RiserVent. Silicone (red RTV)is optional.Note: WithD u r a - Ve n t ,the minimumh e i g h t i sachieved byi n s t a l l i n ga 90 o elbowd i r e c t l y t othe rigid pipeadaptor.UNIT INSTALLATION WITHHORIZONTAL TERMINATIONInstall the vent system according to themanufacturer's instructions included withthe components.1) Set the unit in its desired location. Checkto determine if wall studs or roof raftersare in the way when the venting system isattached. If this is the case, you may wantto adjust the location of the unit. Rough inthe gas preferably on the right side of theunit and the electrical (junction block is onthe left side) on the left.2) Direct Vent pipe and fittings are designed withspecial twist-lock connections to connect theventing system to the appliance flue outlet. Atwist-lock appliance adaptor is an availableoption that must be used in conjunctionwith the Simpson Dura-Vent Direct Ventsystem.3) Put a bead of silicone inside the outer sectionof the adapter and a bead of Mill Pac onthe inner collar. Slip the adapter over theexisting inner and outer flue collar and fastento the outer collar only with the 3 suppliedscrews (drilling pilot holes will make thiseasier). Level the fireplace and fasten it tothe framing using nails or screws throughthe nailing strips.4) Assemble the desired combination of pipeand elbows to the appliance adaptor andtwist-lock for a solid connection.Notes:a) Twist-lock procedure: Four indentations,located on the female ends of pipes andfittings, are designed to slide straightonto the male ends of adjacent pipesand fittings, by orienting the four pipeindentations so they match and slidein to the four entry slots on the maleends, Diagram 1. Push the pipe sectionscompletely together, then twist-lockone section clockwise approximatelyone-quarter turn, until the two sectionsare fully locked. The female locking lugswill not be visible from the outside, onthe Black Pipe or fittings. They may belocated by examining the inside of thefemale ends.
