I m p o r t a n t S e n d i n g F a c t sMemory DialingIf you have stored frequently usednumbers in the unit’s memory, and if theremote party you are calling is set toreceive documents automatically, you cansend a document at the touch of a key orusing [SPEED] key and 2-digit number.For information on storing numbers formemory dialing, see “Storing One-Touch& Speed Dial Numbers” on page 28.T o s e n d d o c u m e n t u s i n g m e m o r ydialing ;1. Load the document face down into theunit (see page 22).2. To dial the number assigned to one-touch key, press the one-touch key.If fax number is not assigned, the unitwill automatically dial the telephonenumber stored in the one-touchlocation.To dial the number assigned to 2-digitnumber, press [SPEED] and enter the2-digit number (01 - 20).3. The unit automatically dials thenumber, confirms the connection andsends the document.The messages on the LCD window tellyou what step is being performed.If you press one-touch key or 2-digitnumber which is not stored in the unit,warning tones sound and [NOTASSIGNED] appears on the window.Automatic RedialingWhen you try to send a document usingmemory dialing and the receiving unit isbusy or does not answer (within 60seconds), your unit will automaticallyredial the number at 3-minute intervalsuntil it reaches the receiving unit. It redialsthe number up to three times in case ofno answer.When you dial a number manually usingthe dial keypad and the number is busy,either press [START/COPY] and hangup or hang then press[ R E D I A L / P A U S E ] to activate theautomatic redialing.If there is still no answer, your unit hangsup. If the receiving unit answers, yourdocument is sent automatically.The OHD indicator flickers and [BUSYREDIAL?] appears on the LCD windowwhile the unit waits for the 3-minuteinterval time to indicate the auto redialingis being activated. If you want to redialthe number soon without waiting for 3minutes, press [YES]. The unit beepseach time it completes redialing. If youa n s w e r [ N O ] against the message[BUSY REDIAL?], the unit returns tothe standby mode.To cancel automatic redialing at any time,press [STOP] or remove the document.If you receive call while the unit waits forthe 3-minute interval time in the middle ofautomatic redialing, lift the handset. Youcan take the call and the automaticredialing is cancelled.Handset Up, Handset DownYou can use any dialingmethod - manual, one-touch, or speeddialing - for manual faxing (with thehandset up) or automatic faxing (with thehandset down).To dial manually with the handset down,press [OHD/HOLD] first. You will hear adial tone through the speaker and youcan then dial manually the telephonenumber using the dial keypad.Leave the handset down when you thinkyou are dialing an automatic fax machineand don’t expect the remote operator toanswer. If the remote operator doesanswer, a fax tone will inform theoperator that a fax is coming in.If you do lift the handset to dial, be surenot to hang up until the transmissionbegins. H a n g i n g u p before thetransmission begins will disconnect theline and cancel the transmission.
