53Entering Text52Entering TextUsing Chinese Stroke ModeThis mode allows you to enter individual Chinesestrokes, in written order, from top to bottom andfrom left to right. Your phone provides ChineseSimplified Stroke mode and Chinese TraditionalStroke mode.The two modes work similarly, but thecharacters that appear on the display may differ.Even though there are many different strokesused to create Chinese characters, the strokesare classified into 5 basic categories; heng, shu,pie, dian and zhe. The basic strokes are printedon the 1 to 5 keys on the keypad.To enter a stroke, press the key printed with thestroke that most closely represents the exactstroke you want.The table shows the stroke/key relationship:Inserting a SpaceTo insert a space between characters, press thekey when the cursor blinks in the Text Area.ScrollingTo move the cursor to the left or right throughyour text, press the Left or Right key.Clearing Strokes and CharactersPress the C key one or more times to removekey stokes to the left. When the Key Stroke Fieldis empty, pressing the C key removes charactersfrom the Text Area.Rapid Character EntryRapid character entry is easy in any mode, usingthe Character Selection Field. As you entercharacters, your phone predicts the nextcharacter you might want and presents choicesin the Character Selection Field. When thecharacter you want appears, you may select it asdescribed in step 4 on page 51.For example, when you want to type the word“zhong guo ( ),” enter the first characterusing the following keystrokes; 9, 4, 6, 6, 1 and7. You don’t need to complete the Pinyin spellingto include “guo ( ).” With no extra typing, thecharacter displays conveniently in the CharacterSelection Field for you to choose.
