133Mobile APThis feature allows you to turn your phoneinto a Wi-Fi hotspot. The feature works bestwhen used in conjunction with 3G dataservices.Important!: The Mobile AP service can not be activeat the same time as Wi-Fi. Please closeyour Wi-Fi connection prior to launching theMobile AP service.To activate the Mobile AP service:1. Press ➔ and then tap(Settings) ➔ Wireless and networks ➔Tethering and portable hotspot ➔ MobileAP settings.2. Tap Mobile AP and place a checkmarkin the adjacent field to activate theservice.3. Tap Configure mobile AP and writedown the Network SSID name. Thisname is generally AndroidAP.4. Confirm the Mobile AP service iconappears at the top of the screen.Note: By default, the connection is open and notsecured. It is recommended that you access theMobile AP settings and create a secureconnection by using a password forcommunication.Note: Using your 3G service and Mobile AP Hotspotdrains your phone’s battery at a much faster ratethan when using any other feature combination.The best way to keep using the phone as ahotspot is to have it connected to a powersupply.To connect to the Hotspot:1. Enable Wi-Fi (wireless) functionality onyour target device (laptop, mediadevice, etc.).2. Scan for Wi-Fi networks from thedevice and select your phone hotspotfrom the network list.• The default name for your phone’s hotspotis AndroidAP.• You can change the name by tappingConfigure mobile AP ➔ Network SSIDand changing the entry.3. Select this Hotspot and follow your on-screen instructions to complete theconnection.4. Launch your Web browser to confirmyou have an Internet connection.To secure the Mobile AP service:The two most common methods for securingyour connection to the Hotspot are to asecurity method (WPA2 PSK) and to Hideyour phone’s SSID name.
