Health and Safety Information162Health and SafetyInformationExposure to Radio Frequency (RF) SignalsYour wireless phone is a radio transmitter and receiver. It isdesigned and manufactured not to exceed the emission limitsfor exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by theFederal Communications Commission (FCC) of the U.S.Government. These limits are part of comprehensiveguidelines and establish permitted levels of RF energy for thegeneral population. The guidelines are based on the safetystandards that were developed by independent scientificorganizations through periodic and through evaluation ofscientific studies. The standards include a substantial safety margin designed toassure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for wireless phones employs a unit ofmeasurement known as Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). TheSAR limit recommended by the FCC is 1.6W/kg.** In the U.S. and Canada, the SAR limit for mobile phones usedby the public is 1.6 watts/kg (W/kg) averaged over one gram oftissue. The standard incorporates a substantial margin of safetyto give additional protection for the public and to account forany variations in measurements.Health and Safety Information163SAR tests are conducted using standard operating positionsspecified by the FCC with the phone transmitting at its highestcertified power level in all tested frequency bands. Althoughthe SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, theactual SAR level of the phone while operating can be wellbelow the maximum value. This is because the phone isdesigned to operate at multiple power levels so as to use onlythe power required to reach the network. In general, thecloser you are to a wireless base station antenna, the lowerthe power output of the phone. Before a new model phone is available for sale to the public, itmust be tested and certified to the FCC that it does notexceed the limit established by the government adoptedrequirement for safe exposure. The tests are performed inpositions and locations (e.g., at the ear and worn on thebody) as required by the FCC for each model. While theremay be differences between the SAR levels of various phonesand at various positions, they all meet the governmentrequirement. The FCC has granted an Equipment Authorization for thismodel phone with all reported SAR levels evaluated as incompliance with the FCC RF exposure guidelines. SARinformation on this model phone is on file with the FCC andcan be found under the Display Grant section of http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid after searching on FCC ID printed inthe label on the phone.FCC certification information for this model phone is attachedseparation paper.
