1514Operating IndicatorsDisplay indicators (or icons) usually appear across the topof your phone’s display screen. Somtimes they may not beshown on the screen.Signal strength: This icon appears when yourphone is on, and shows your current signalstrength.More lines indicate more signal strength.Four lines indicate maximum strength, and one lineindicates least strength.Service indicator: This icon indicates a call is inprogress. If there is trouble with signal strength,this indicator will have a diagonal line through it.No service indicator: This icon indicates yourphone cannot find a signal because you’re outsidea service area.When this is displayed, you cannotmake or receive calls.Wait a little while for a signalor move into an open area.Note: The no service indicator will appear whenyou turn on your phone.As soon as service isfound, the indicator disappears.Turning your Samsung PCSPhone on and offTo turn it onSimply press and three things happen:The LED indicator flashes,the phone beeps andthe start-up graphics begin to play.The phone will then begin searching for a network signal.When a signal is found, the icon appears and yourphone enters Standby mode.The Standby mode screen isshown below and always contains the following fourthings:Signal strength indicator .Battery strength indicator .Banner (here the banner is“Samsung PCS” but you can per-sonalize it).Time and date.You can make and receive calls now.To turn it offTo turn your phone off, press and hold until thepower off graphics begin to play.The power off sounds willthen play and the display goes blank. Notice that when thephone is off, nothing is displayed on the screen, and thebacklight is off.Note: If your phone is on and is pressed for lessthan one second, the phone will not turn off.This featurehelps keep your phone from being accidentally turned off.
