98 Emergency operationStandard emergency modeWhen you press the emergency key your radio enters‘emergency mode’, if your radio is programmed inthis way.When the radio enters emergency mode, it willautomatically send alerts together with your radio unitID to the dispatcher. These alerts are usually sent ona designated emergency channel.Warning The way your radio behaves in emergencymode depends on how your radio is programmed.For further information on what your radio may do inemergency mode, see "What happens during anemergency call?" on page 99.Stealth and non-stealth emergency modesYour radio is programmed to operate in one ofthese ways:■ Stealth: you often work in situations where you donot want an assailant to know that you have acti-vated emergency mode. For this reason, the radiois silent and the display remains unchanged—there is no indication that the radio has enteredemergency mode.An optional feature of stealth emergencies is falsepowerdown (‘keep alive’). When an unauthorizedperson attempts to prevent you from using yourradio by turning it off, the radio appears to turn off.However, the radio is still in emergency mode.■ Non-stealth: you often work in situations whereyou want audible and visual confirmation that youhave activated emergency mode (for example, atan accident scene).
