58 Operating in P25 trunking modeAbout P25 trunkingYour radio may be able to operate on a P25 trunkingsystem as well as a conventional repeater-based system. On a conventional system, radio users compete foraccess to individual channels, and one channel can beoverloaded with traffic while others are often unused. The trunking system allows several channels to beautomatically shared by a number of radio users. Thesetraffic channels are pooled and allocated, as required, for the duration of a call. As calls are completed, thetraffic channels are returned to the pool, to be used forother calls. This system means reduced waiting times tomake calls.Checking that the system is availableWhen you first switch to a talkgroup configured for P25trunking, the radio attempts to access the network andregister on a control channel. If registration is successful, the trunking system availablesymbol appears in the display.Registration is unsuccessfulIf registration is not successful, does not appear, andthe display shows No service. The radio sounds five beeps, followed by a repeatingdouble beep. The double beep continues untilregistration is successful.Talkgroup 1Zone 11trunked system availablesymboltalkgroup namezone or site nameMenuTalkgroup 1No serviceMenu
