108 Customizing your radio11 Customizing your radioThis section describes the ways in which you cancustomize your radio.This section covers:■ About display and keypad backlighting■ Reducing power consumption■ Customizing the audible alert settingsAbout display and keypadbacklightingWhenever a key is pressed or a call is received, thekeypad and display light up automatically to make iteasy to read in poor light conditions.Backlighting usually remains on for a few seconds,unless further radio activity is detected. The period oftime that the backlighting remains on once no furtherradio activity is detected is determined by thebacklighting timer. The duration of this timer is setwhen the radio is programmed.The radio’s display can also be made darker or lighterto suit your working conditions. See “Adjusting thedisplay contrast” on page 110.Turning backlighting on or off1 Press Menu and select Radio settings > Displaysettings > Backlighting.(Depending on how your radio is programmed, youmay be able to press a function key to turnbacklighting on or off.)
