The defaultat power-on is for this mode tobe on.The track delay, expressed inseconds, is between –4 to +150 milliseconds. At atypical sound propagation rate, the maximum valuecorresponds to about 50 meters (about 160 feet) ofdistance.7.4 Sub-mixerOne important feature of the DA-78HR is the abilityto mix input sources and off-tape signals into a stereosignal which is routed to tracks 7 and 8 and can beoutput at the rear panel SPDIF (COAXIAL) output (aswell as through channels 7 and 8 of the TDIF-1 digi-tal and analog outputs). As well as the track delayavailable on the DA-78HR for the tape tracks, thisinternal mixer also features level and pan controls, sothat a simple mix can be obtained. This mixed signal is output only when the MIXDOWNindicator is lit. Pressing the (unshifted) MIXDOWNkey will toggle the indicator between on and off.A temporary “patch” can also be set up for this sub-mix, overriding the current input patch settings whilethe mixdown mode is active.NOTEWhen MIXDOWNis on, the signals from channels 1through 6 (analog and digital) are not output.7.4.1 Entering mixdown mode1 Make sure the SHIFT indicator is off.2 Press the MIXDOWN key. The MIXDOWN indi-cator will light.Pressing the MIXDOWN key again (with shift modeoff) will exit mixdown mode.7.4.2 Setting the master levelThis is the master level of all signals output throughchannels 7 and 8.1 With mixdown mode enabled, press the SHIFTkey so that the indicator is flashing.2 Press the MIXDOWN (LEVEL/PAN) key. Thisenters the level/pan setting mode.3 If the display does not show MST. L ;;; (MSTL xxx — master level), continue to press theLEVEL/PAN key until this is shown.Repeated presses of the LEVEL/PAN key or thecurrently-selected channel (as explainedbelow) will cycle through the following:master level →→→→ channel level →→→→ channel pan →→→→channel input selection4 Use the data knob and/or the s and t keys tochange the level between 0 (–∞∞∞∞ dB) and 127(0 dB).The 7 and 8 meters may be used to show thelevel (toggle with SHIFT+REC FUNCTION). The0 dB segment represents a value of 127, andthe –12 dB segment represents a value of 64.7.4.3 Leaving edit/pan setting modeWhen the unit is in edit/pan setting mode as above, itcan be returned to normal operations (as shown by achange in the display) by either of the followingmethods:Entering another shift mode function (e.g.delay)orPressing the SHIFT key so that the SHIFT indi-cator stops flashing (exiting shift mode).NOTERemember that turning off the edit/pan setting modewill not automatically turn off the mixdown mode. Toturn off the mixdown mode, you must turn off the shiftmode and then press the MIXDOWNkey.7.4.4 Setting levels and pan positionsTo set the individual channel levels and panpositions:1 Make sure that the unit is in level/pan settingmode, as described above (7.4.2, “Setting themaster level”).2 Press the REC FUNCTION key whose numbercorresponds to the channel you want to set.The REC FUNCTION indicator at the bottom ofthe meter will start to flash, showing that this isthe active channel being edited.positive values0 (zero)negative values
