20 TASCAM DR-6803 – PreparationsPowering the unitAbout the power supplyThis unit can be powered by 8 AA batteries or theincluded PS-1225L AC adaptor, which matches thepower specifications of this unit.This unit can use alkaline or nickel-metal hydride AAbatteries.Using AA batteriesSlide off the battery compartment cover on the bottompanel of this unit, insert 8 AA batteries into the batterycompartment according to the +/– indications, andclose the compartment cover again.When using AA batteries, set the battery type sothat the unit can accurately display the remainingbattery charge and determine the necessary minimumremaining charge for operation. (See “Setting thebattery type” on page 48.)CAUTIONManganese AA batteries cannot be used.•This unit cannot recharge AA nickel-metal hydride•(NiMH) batteries. Use a commercially-available batteryrecharger to recharge NiMH batteries.NOTEA great amount of power is required to providephantom power to a condenser microphone. If you usea condenser microphone while running the unit on AAbatteries (NiMH rechargeable or alkaline), the operationtime will be greatly shortened. If you need to operate theunit for a long time, use the AC adaptor.Using the AC adaptorAs shown in the figure, connect the included PS-1225LAC adaptor, which conforms to the specifications ofthis unit, to the DC IN 12V jack.AC outletDC plugTASCAMPS-1225LA hook (cord holder) to fix the cord of the AC adaptoris on the right side panel. Wrap the cord around thehook when connecting it to prevent it from beingdisconnected during use.CAUTIONUse only the included PS-1225L AC adaptor, whichconforms to the specifications of this unit. Use of anadaptor other than this model could cause malfunction,fire or electric shock.NOTEIf power is available from both batteries and the ACadaptor, the power is supplied by the AC adaptor.
