19Chapter 6: Network TabAirRouter HP User GuideUbiquiti Networks, Inc.• SOHO Router SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) Routermode is a derivation of Router mode. In SOHO Routermode, the Main Ethernet port labeled <···> functions asthe WAN port. The WLAN and LAN ports function as theLocal Area Network (LAN). This is the default operatingmode of the AirRouter HP.Disable Network This option can be used to disable theWLAN, LAN or WAN interface. This setting should be usedwith caution as no L2 or L3 connection can be establishedthrough the disabled interface. It will be impossible toaccess the AirRouter HP from the wireless/wired networkwhich is connected to the disabled interface. Disable WANis only applicable while operating in SOHO Router mode.BridgeIn Bridge mode, the AirRouter HP forwards all networkmanagement and data packets from one networkinterface to the other without any intelligent routing. Forsimple applications this provides an efficient and fullytransparent network solution. WLAN (wireless) and LAN(Ethernet) interfaces belong to the same network segmentand share the same IP address space. WLAN and LANinterfaces form the virtual bridge interface while acting asthe bridge ports. The bridge has assigned IP settings formanagement purposes.Bridge > Network SettingsBridge IP Address The device can be set for static IP orcan be set to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server itis connected to. One of the IP assignment modes must beselected:• DHCP Choose this option to assign the dynamic IPaddress, Gateway and DNS address by the local DHCPserver.- DHCP Fallback IP Enter the IP address for theAirRouter HP to use if a DHCP server is not found.- DHCP Fallback Netmask Enter the netmask for theAirRouter HP to use if a DHCP server is not found.• Static Choose this option to assign the static IP settingsfor the bridge interface.Note: IP Address and Netmask settings shouldbe consistent with the address space of thenetwork segment where the AirRouter HPresides.- IP Address Enter the IP address of the device whileStatic Bridge IP Address mode is selected. This IP willbe used for AirRouter HP management purposes.- Netmask This is a value which when expanded intobinary provides a mapping to define which portionsof IP address groups can be classified as host devicesand network devices. Netmask defines the addressspace of the network segment where the AirRouter HPresides. 255.255.255.0 (or /24) Netmask is commonlyused on many C Class IP networks.- Gateway IP Typically, this is the IP address of the hostrouter which provides the point of connection to theInternet. This can be a DSL modem, Cable modem, ora WISP gateway router. The AirRouter HP will directthe packets of data to the gateway if the destinationhost is not within the local network.Note: In Bridge mode, the Gateway IP addressshould be from the same address space (on thesame network segment) as the AirRouter HP.
