VIDEOSTUDIO HELPTable of Contents | Index Back 43Capturing DV videoVideoStudio increases your video-editing freedom by not onlyallowing you to capture digital video, but by giving you the optionto save them as DV Type-1 or Type-2 files as well. Now it is veryimportant that you know the differences between the two:DV Type-1 and DV Type-2DV captured by FireWire (IEEE-1394 capture card) isautomatically stored as AVI files (that is, if you did not previouslyspecify a plug-in that will directly capture your digital video toMPEG format). An AVI file usually contains two streams, one videoand one audio. DV is a data stream that itself contains video andaudio.Seamless DV and MPEG CaptureVideoStudio runs on Windows operating systems and is subject tolimitations in file size when capturing or rendering video.VideoStudio automatically performs seamless capture, saving videointo a new file every time the maximum allowable file size for asingle video file has been reached.Seamless capture will be performed only when capturing DV Type-1 or DV Type-2 (from DV camcorder), or when capturing MPEGvideo (from DV camcorder or analog capture device). The maximumcaptured file size per video file is 4 GB in Windows operatingsystems (such as Windows 98 SE and Me) that use the FAT 32partition file system. Captured video data in excess of 4 GB areautomatically saved to a new file. In Windows 2000, which uses theNTFS file system, there is no limit in the captured file size.Seamless capture is not available in VFW (Video For Windows)capture.Note: VideoStudio automatically detects your file system and performs seamlesscapture only in a FAT 32 partition file system. The NTFS system does not havethe 4GB limitation.
