Inspection and maintenanceInstallation and maintenance instructions ecoTEC exclusive 0020017768_07 3988 Inspection and maintenance8.1 Inspection and maintenance intervalsa Danger!Danger of death from incorrect inspection/maintenance!Incorrect inspection/maintenance can resultin leaks and an explosion.> Inform the operator that the stipulatedinspection and maintenance intervals mustbe complied with as a minimum require-ment.> Carry out the regular inspection once ayear.> Carry out regular maintenance work in linewith the findings from the inspection. The maintenance interval must not belonger than five years.> The inspection/maintenance may only becarried out by a competent personapproved at the time by the Health andSafety Executive. Work must be in accord-ance with regulations introduced in 1998governing the safety of gas installations(installation and use).a Danger!Risk of poisoning and scalding caused byescaping hot flue gases!Hot flue gas can escape and cause poisoningand scalding, if the boiler is operated with anincompletely mounted or open flue pipe or ifthe boiler is operated with internal leaks withthe front cladding open.> Operate the boiler- for start-up- for testing- in continuous operationonly when the front cladding is closed andthe air/flue gas duct is fully fitted andclosed. All service work must be carried out by a competentperson in accordance with the Gas safety, installationand use regulations. In the UK this is considered to be aperson approved at the time by the Health and SafetyExecutive. In addition BS 6798: 2009 “Specification for installationand maintenance of gas-fired boilers of rated input notexceeding 70 kW net” advises that:– The person carrying out a combustion measurementmust be assessed as competent in the use of a fluegas analyser and the interpretation of the results.– The flue gas analyser used must be one meeting therequirements of BS7927 or BS-EN50379-3 and be cali-brated in accordance with the analyser manufactur-ers’ requirements.– Competence can be demonstrated by satisfactorycompletion of the relevant ACS standard assessment, which covers the use of electronic portable flue gasanalysers’ in accordance with BS 7967, parts 1 to 4.– The flue gas analyser is set to the correct fuel setting. We recommend the conclusion of an inspection andmaintenance contract with an approved company orinstaller. The inspection serves to determine the actual conditionof the respective boiler and compare it with the speci-fied condition. This is done by measuring, checking andobserving.Maintenance is required in order to eliminate any devia-tions of the actual condition from the specified condi-tion.This normally is done by cleaning, adjustment and, ifnecessary, replacing individual components that are sub-ject to wear. You must carry out an annual inspection of theVaillant ecoTEC.It is possible to perform a quick, accurate inspectionwithout removing components by requesting data fromthe DIA system, carrying out the simple visual checksindicated in Table 8.2 and performing a flue gas meas-urement.The maintenance intervals (at least once every 5 years)and their scope are determined by the heating engineerbased on the condition of the boiler found during theinspection. All inspection and maintenance work should be per-formed in the order specified in Table 8.2.
