Volume and PanThis unit is the last part in the MicroWave II/XT/XTk’s signal routing. Its purpose is to set thevolume and the pan position of the sound. After that the signal passes the D/A converterand can be taken from the audio jacks on the rear panel. To understand the operation of this unit, it is important to know that the Amplifier Envelopeis always acting as a modulation source for the volume. This means that an audio signalcan only pass through if the Amplifier Envelope is triggered and opened. Finally a chorus effect can be added to enhance the sound.VolumeAmplifierVolume0…127Determines the master volume of the sound program.Velocity-64…+63Specifies how much volume will be affected by keyboard velocity. Use this feature to givemore expression to the sound. With a setting of0, velocity will have no effect on thevolume. Classic organs work in this way because they do not have dynamic response. Forpositive settings, the volume rises up to higher velocities. This is the most commonly usedsetting which gives a piano-like character. For negative settings, the volume falls up tohigher velocities. This gives an untypical character suitable for effect sounds. As theAmplifier always works in conjunction with the Amplifier Envelope, this parameter actuallydetermines the envelope velocity amount. The following diagram illustrates thisfunctionality:Keytrack-200%…+197%Determines how much the volume depends on the MIDI note number. The reference notefor Keytrack is E3, note number 64. For positive settings, the volume increases on notesabove the reference note, for negative settings the volume decreases up to higher notes andvice versa. This setting can be useful to adjust a sound’s volume over the whole keyboardrange. Especially when extensive filtering is used, the sound can be louder on the lower orthe upper part of the keyboard. On the other side, you can apply this effect intentionallye.g. for effect sounds.Key velocity=64Key velocity=127Key velocity=1Maximum volumeVelocity parameter = +63TimeVolumeKey velocity=1…127Maximum volumeVelocity parameter = 0TimeVolumeKey velocity=64Key velocity=1Key velocity=127Maximum volumeVelocity parameter = -64TimeVolumeVolume |Velocity |Keytrack | Chorus090 | +40 | +000% | on58 User’s Manual MicroWave II • MicroWave XT • XTk
