MIDI ControlThis chapter describes the MIDI control options of the MicroWave II/XT/XTk.Selecting ProgramsCalling Programs via Program ChangeAll of the MicroWave II/XT/XTk’s Sound and Multi programs can be called via MIDIProgram Change messages and MIDI Bank Select messages. As the device contains 128programs in each bank, it recognizes program number0…127. To select the bank, youhave to use a Bank Select message:• Bank 0 contains Sound ProgramsA001…A128• Bank 1 contains Sound ProgramsB001…B128When the MicroWave II/XT/XTk is in Multi mode, you have three options, how ProgramChange and Bank Select messages work. By means of the Global parameter PrgChangeyou can determine if a Sound program inside the current Multi Program is changed, thewhole Multi program is changed, or if both methods are used in combination.Influencing Sounds via MIDI MessagesControllers as Modulation SourcesThe controllers Modwheel and Breath Control are always used as modulation sources. Thefreely-definable Control X…Z can also be used as a modulation source. X…Z stands fordefinable controller numbers1…120. Use these controllers in the Modifiers and theModulation Matrix.Changing Sound Parameters via ControllersEvery important parameter is assigned a controller number through which the parametercan be changed. If a parameter is changed at the device, then this change is sent alongwith the appropriate controller number via MIDI. This is especially helpful when you wantto record changes you made at the MicroWave II/XT/XTk to a sequencer. All controller messages are sent and received via the channel defined in the globalparameters or, if in Multi mode, selected for the corresponding Instrument. The appendix ofthis manual contains a table listing the controller numbers and the sound parameters theyare assigned to.PitchbendingThe Pitchbend Range parameter of the oscillators lets you define to what extent apitchbend message influences the pitch of the MicroWave II/XT/XTk. Pitchbend is alsoavailable as a modulation source.Aftertouch and Poly PressureAftertouch and Poly Pressure are available as modulation sources in the MicroWaveII/XT/XTk. They can be used for any application where control change messages areaccepted.System Exclusive DataAll parameters of the MicroWave II/XT/XTk can be controlled by system exclusive data. Youcan find a detailed description of the commands and data formats in the appendix.User’s Manual MicroWave II • MicroWave XT • XTk 97
