Safety Instructions - Operating1212. When moving forward, do not suddenly put thetractor in reverse by rapidly pulling on the steering levers, especially when going downhill, asthis can lift the tractor tail wheel off the groundand set up a bucking motion due to operatorovercontrol. If bucking does occur, immediatelystop the bucking action by pulling the ForwardSpeed Control (FSC) lever into the NEUTRAL-PARK position.13. Disengage the blade drive when transportingthe machine across drives, sidewalks, etc. Nev-er raise the mower deck while blades arerotating.DANGERDo not mow or drive the tractor within 5feet (1.5 meters) of an embankment or re-taining wall with drop off.14. The maximum recommended slope operat-ing angle is 15 degrees or 27% grade. Whenoperating the machine on a slope, reduce speedand use caution to start, stop, and maneuver. To prevent tipping or loss of control of the machine, avoid sharp turns or sudden changes indirection. Do not operate the machine on aslope greater than 15 degrees.15. Never adjust cutting height with the enginerunning. Before adjusting cutting height orservicing, disengage the blade clutch (PTO),engage parking brake, stop the engine, and remove the ignition key. Wait for all movement tostop before getting off the seat.NOTE: The blade/PTO brake should normallystop drive line rotation within five (5) seconds ofdis engaging the PTO clutch.16. For side discharge mower decks, do not oper-ate with the grass deflector shield removed.Keep the deflector in the lowest possible position.17. When using the tiltup deck, observe the fol-lowing:a. Do not move tractor with deck in tiltupposition.b. Never tilt body forward with deck in tiltupposition.18. In case of a clogged or plugged mower deck:a. Disengage the blade clutch (PTO), engagethe parking brake, and turn the engine offbefore leaving the seat.b. LOOK to make sure blade drive shaftmove ment has stopped before trying to unclog the system.c. Disconnect the spark plug wires.d. Never place hands under the deck use astick or similar tool to remove clogged material.19. If the cutting blades strike a solid object or themachine begins to vibrate abnormally, immedi-ately disengage the blade clutch (PTO), en-gage the parking brake, stop the engine, and wait for all moving parts to stop. To prevent accidental starting, disconnect the sparkplug wires. Thoroughly inspect the mower andrepair any damage before restarting the engineand operating the mower. Make sure cutterblades are in good condition and blade nuts aretorqued to 60 lb·ft (81 N·m) for gear drivendecks, and blade bolts torqued to 70 lb·ft (95N·m) for belt driven decks.20. Do not touch the engine or muffler while theengine is running or immediately after stopping the engine. These areas may be hotenough to cause serious burns.21.
