Maintenance Instructions LUBRICATION33Tractor PTO Gearbox LubricationChecking Gearbox Oil LevelThe tractor PTO gearbox is permanently lubricated(oil filled) and sealed requiring no scheduled lubrica-tion. However, the gearbox oil seals should bechecked every 25 hours for indication of oil leaks. Ifevidence of an oil leak is noted, replace the oil sealand relubricate the gearbox. The gearbox can bedrained by removing the plug on the gearbox cover.Replace plug and refill gearbox using 5 fl. oz. (15cl)of SAE E.P. (Extreme Pressure) 90W oil. With the deck removed, the tractor unit may need tobe tilted forward (resting on deck support arms) forpositioning purposes, to add oil into the PTO gear-box.Tractor PTO Gearbox Location(view from underside of tractor)Transaxle Lubrication• The transaxle oil lubrication is SAE 20W-50 en-gine oil.• Inspect both transaxle cases after every 100hours of operation for visible leaks. If a leak is de-tected, the oil level should be checked through thebreather port on top of the transaxle. Using a cleanrod, measure the oil level by placing the rod in the fillport and bottoming out the rod on the bottom of thecase. Remove the rod and measure the oil level onthe rod. It should measure 4 to 4-1/4 in. (10 to 10.75cm) total depth of oil. DO NOT overfill.Steering Linkage and PTO Linkage LubricationThe steering and PTO linkage are located at the rearof the tractor below the body. The grease and oilpoints should be lubricated every 25 hours.Steering and PTO Linkage Location(view from underside of tractor)CAUTIONDo not leave the mower in this position foran extended period of time to prevent oilfrom draining into the heads and causingpossible engine damage.PTO GearboxDrain PlugPTO GearboxFill Plug Rear of TractorRear of TractorSteering LinkageLubrication PointsPTO LinkageLubrication Points
