This operating system includes all thesoftware resources that make the appliance fully functional, including acomplex database that stores the settings you assemble with the followingsoftware application.The WatchGuard Firebox Vclass administrative clientapplicationsUsing the WatchGuard Vcontroller (or the companion WatchGuard CPMclient software) gives you full control of all the customizable operatingsystem parameters, including basic system configurations, securitypolicies, maintenance and activity logging. You can use a more recentversion of a client management application to maintain the operations ofan appliance with an older version of the OS, however, you should notuse an older client to manage a recently upgraded-OS appliance.This is important, as a careful upgrade strategy is crucial in keeping yoursecurity appliances at optimum levels. As fully detailed in a separatechapter in the System Administration Guide, you will need to occasionallyupgrade both operating system software and the WatchGuardadministrative application.
