Telephone RequirementsThe machine comes equipped with its owntelephone: a separate telephone is not necessaryfor operation of the machine. The telephone walljack should be within 5 feet (1.5 meters) of themachine. It should be a 6 position, 4 pin modularjack (USOC RJliC). A single line (no key set ormultiple locations on the same extension number)is recommended. The wall jack can be part of aPABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange)system or CO (Central Office) telephone lines, butit must be RJll compatible.US: FCC regulationsThis machine contains an internal data couplerand a hearing aid compatible handset. Its use isrestricted by the FCC (Federal CommunicationsCommission). To comply with the FCC rules, youmust carefully read and follow the instructionslisted below:1. If requested, you must give the telephonecompany the following information:* The telephone number connected to thismachine.- The FCC registration number for thismachine.- The registration number is issued by theFCC, under part 66 of its Rules andRegulations. for direct connection to atelephone line. The number is printed on alabel on the rear of the machine.- The REN (Ringer Equivalence Number) ofthe machine is printed on a label at the rearof the machine.NOTE: The REN is used to determinethe sum total of the devices you mayconnect to one telephone line and stillhave a// of them ring when yourtelephone number is called. In manyareas, the sum total of the REN of a//devices connected to one line should notexceed five (5.0). This applies at any time during orafter the service warranty period. Ifunauthorized repair is performed. theremainder of the warranty period is null andvoid.If you find the telephone line is damaged orthe telephone company notifies you that yourmachine is causing damage, disconnect themachine from the telephone line and call forservice. Do not reconnect the machine untilnecessary repairs are made.The telephone company will, where practical,notify you when they need to temporarilydisconnect your service. However, if action isreasonable and necessary, but prior notice isnot practical, they may still temporarilydisconnect your service. In such cases theymust:* Immediately notify you of their temporaryaction.* Reconnect service when the source ofdamage is removed.* Inform you of your rights to bring a complaintto the FCC under FCC rules.The telephone company may make changesto its communications facilities, equipment.operations, or procedures.
