Select the VFO mode by pressing the key, if necessary.2. Press the key momentarily to start scanning. If a signal strong enough to open the squelch is encountered duringscanning, scanning will pause temporarily and the decimal point of thefrequency will blink during the pause.Scanning will resume according to the Scan-Resume mode that was selected.See Set the Scan-Resume Preference on page 42 for details.3. To cancel scanning, press the key momentarily again, or press the microphone’sPTT key.0. (1) When you start scanning, the FT−8900R will scan in the upwarddirection. If you want to change the direction of the scan while it isunderway, rotate the DIAL knob one click in the opposite direction (in thiscase, one click counterclockwise). The scanning direction will reverse andscan downward.(2) Pressing and holding in the microphone’s or key will causescanning to sweep frequencies only on the current band.(3) If you would like the scanner not to be restricted to the current band, setMenu #4 (BAND) to BND.OFF to cause the FT−8900R to hop to the lowedge of the next-highest band when the VFO frequency reaches the highend of the current band (or vice- versa).
