FTA-720 OperATing MAnuAl 13To set 118.275 MHz, you do not need to press thefinal “5” in the frequency: .Note: When the entered frequency is outside of thecurrent operating band, the entry is ignored (i.e.FTA-720 does not permit entry of an FM BC bandfrequency while operating in the AIR band). You may also turn thetop panel’s DIAL se-lector knob to choosethe desired operatingfrequency. The channelfrequency will appearon the LCD. To change frequency in 1 MHz steps, press thekey momentarily, then rotate the DIAL selectorknob to select the MHz digit desired. Press thekey once more to resume normal channel step. Rotate the VOL knobto set the volume level.If no signal is present,press and hold in theMONITOR button for2 seconds; backgroundn o i s e w i l l n o w b eB asIc operatIonheard, and you may use this noise to set the VOLknob for the desired audio level. Press the MONI-TOR button momentarily to silence the noise andresume normal (quiet) monitoring. To turn the radio off, press and hold in the (PWR)switch for 3 seconds.Squelch Adjustment Press and hold in the key for 3 seconds. Thisinstantly recalls Menu Item “SQL” on the Air Band,Weather Channel, orBRS Band or “FM RadioS Q L ” o n t h e F M B Cband. Press the key to enable adjustment of this MenuItem. Rotate the DIAL selector knob to set the squelchthreshold (0 - 8) so that the receiver is just silenced.A higher number indicates that a higher signal levelis required in order to open the squelch. When you have made your setting, press thekey to save the new setting, then press the PTT keyrepetitively until the radio exits to normal operation.
