5-5EEMU00423STARTER WILL NOT OPERATEIf the starter mechanism does not operate(engine cannot be cranked with the starter),the engine can be started with an emer-gency starter rope.WARNING@ Use this procedure only in an emer-gency and only to return to port forrepairs. When the emergency starter rope isused to start the engine, the start-in-gear protection device does not oper-ate. Make sure the gear shift lever/remote control lever is in neutral. Oth-erwise, the boat could unexpectedlystart to move, which could result in anaccident. Be sure no one is standing behind youwhen pulling the starter rope. It couldwhip behind you and injure someone. An unguarded rotating flywheel is verydangerous. Keep loose clothing andother objects away when starting theengine. Use the emergency starterrope only as instructed. Do not touchthe flywheel or other moving partswhen the engine is running. Do notinstall the starter mechanism or topcowling after the engine is running. Do not touch the ignition coil, highvoltage wire, spark plug cap or otherelectrical components when startingof operating the motor. You could beshocked.@
