Periodic maintenance and adjustment6-176EAU72990Cleaning the air filter elementThe air filter element should be cleanedor replaced at the intervals specified inthe periodic maintenance and lubrica-tion chart. Clean or, if necessary, re-place the air filter element morefrequently if you are riding in unusuallywet or dusty areas.1. Remove panel B. (See page 6-7.)2. Remove the intake air shroud byremoving the screw and the quickfastener screws.3. Remove the air filter case cover byremoving the screws.4. Pull the air filter element out.5. Lightly tap the air filter element toremove most of the dust and dirt,and then blow the remaining dirtout with compressed air asshown. If the air filter element isdamaged, replace it.6. Insert the air filter element into theair filter case. NOTICE: Makesure that the air filter element isproperly seated in the air filtercase. The engine should neverbe operated without the air filterelement installed, otherwise thepiston(s) and/or cylinder(s) maybecome excessively worn.[ECA10482]7.
