PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT6-13612. Start the engine, and then let it idlefor several minutes while checkingit for oil leakage. If oil is leaking,immediately turn the engine offand check for the cause.13. Turn the engine off, and thencheck the oil level and correct it ifnecessary.14. Reset the oil change indicator.(See page 3-10.)EAU20071CoolantThe coolant level should be checkedbefore each ride. In addition, the cool-ant must be changed at the intervalsspecified in the periodic maintenanceand lubrication chart.EAUM1726To check the coolant level1. Place the vehicle on a level sur-face and hold it in an upright posi-tion.TIP The coolant level must bechecked on a cold engine sincethe level varies with engine tem-perature. Make sure that the vehicle is posi-tioned straight up when checkingthe coolant level. A slight tilt to theside can result in a false reading.2. Check the coolant level in thecoolant reservoir.TIPThe coolant should be between theminimum and maximum level marks.3. If the coolant is at or below theminimum level mark, removecowling A (See page 6-8.), andthen open the reservoir cap.WARNING! Remove only thecoolant reservoir cap. Never at-tempt to remove the radiatorcap when the engine is hot.[EWA15162]4. Add coolant to the maximum levelmark, and then close the reservoircap.
