Genuine Yamaha accessories, which are available only from a Yamaha dealer, have been designed, tested, and approved byYamaha for use on your vehicle. Many companies with no connection to Yamahamanufacture parts and accessories or offer oth-er modifications for Yamaha vehicles. Yamahais not in a position to test the products that theseaftermarket companies produce. Therefore,Yamaha can neither endorse nor recommendthe use of accessories not sold by Yamaha ormodifications not specifically recommended byYamaha, even if sold and installed by a Yamahadealer.Aftermarket Parts, Accessories, and Modifi-cationsWhile you may find aftermarket products similarin design and quality to genuine Yamaha acces-sories, recognize that some aftermarket acces-sories or modifications are not suitable becauseof potential safety hazards to you or others. In-stalling aftermarket products or having othermodifications performed to your vehicle thatchange any of the vehicle’s design or operationcharacteristics can put you and others at greaterrisk of serious injury or death. You are responsi-ble for injuries related to changes in the vehicle.Keep the following guidelines in mind, as well asthose provided under “Loading” when mountingaccessories.1. Never install accessories that would impairthe performance of your motorcycle. Careful-ly inspect the accessory before using it tomake sure that it does not in any way reduceground clearance or cornering clearance, lim-it suspension travel, steering travel or controloperation.• Accessories fitted to the handlebar or thefront fork area can create instability due to im-proper weight distribution. If accessories areadded to the handlebar or front fork area, they must be as lightweight as possible andshould be kept to a minimum.• Bulky or large accessories may seriously af-fect the stability of the motorcycle. Wind mayattempt to lift the motorcycle, or the motorcy-cle may become unstable in cross winds.• Certain accessories can displace the opera-tor from his or her normal riding position. Thisimproper position limits the freedom of move-ment of the operator and may limit controlability, therefore, such accessories are notrecommended.2. Use caution when adding electrical accesso-ries. If electrical accessories exceed the ca-pacity of the motorcycle’s electrical system,an electric failure could result, which couldcause a dangerous loss of lights or enginepower. |
