2-8 CHAPTER 2: INSTALLATION AND SETUP FOR MA NAGEMENTDUA1663-0BAA03Connecting Management Equipment to the Serial PortThis section describes how to connect and set up equipment tocommunicate with the Module via the serial port (out-of-bandmanagement).By default, the M odule will automatically configure its baud rate. Youwill need to set the character size (8), stop bit (1) and parity (none)settings of the connected equipment to work with the M odule.Connection to the serial port may be direct or through modems, givingthe options of local or remote management. The maximum rate theautoconfiguration function will detect is 9600 baud.Cables of the appropriate type for connection to the serial port shouldbe available from your supplier. If you wish to make up your owncables, refer to the pin-outs given in Appendix A.Chapter 3 describes the VT100 management interface in detail.Connecting a VT100 TerminalTo connect a VT100 terminal directly to the serial port, you need astandard null modem cable. See Appendix A for the pin-outinformation. Connect one end of the cable to the serial port on theModule, and the other to the serial (RS232) port on the VT100 terminal. The Module automatically configures its baud rate as described above, but you must set the character size (8), stop bit (1) and parity (none)settings of the connected equipment to work with the M odule.Refer to “Getting Started” on page 3-6 for details of how to get startedwith the VT100 management interface.Connecting a VT100 Terminal EmulatorThe workstation will need to run suitable terminal emulation software. Many VT100 terminal emulation packages are available. Refer to theuser manuals of your particular terminal emulation package for details,or consult your supplier if you need further advice.
