Changing the 3C529 Adapter Options3-63C529 Adapter OptionsThe 3C529 adapter options and default settings are:n Network Driver Optimization [DOS Client]n Maximum Modem Speed [9600 Baud]Network Driver OptimizationThis option specifies whether to optimize the networkdriver for a DOS client, a Microsoft® Windows™ or IBMOS/2 client, or a server environment. Changing this optionmay improve network performance as well as yoursystem’s responsiveness. The driver will attempt tooptimize various parameters, such as CPU utilization, to theenvironment specified. For example, a client may use alarger percentage of the CPU under DOS to improvenetwork throughput. On a server this may be inappropriate,so the driver will attempt to minimize the CPU usage tooptimize performance in a server environment.Maximum Modem SpeedThe modem speed you choose tells the adapter how longit can disable interrupts without causing problems withthe serial port. The lower the modem speed, the longerthe adapter can keep interrupts disabled. On slowercomputers, running with longer disabled interrupts canimprove network performance. On those computers, changing the option setting to 2400, 1200, or No Modemmay improve performance. On faster computers, there islittle performance difference between the settings.
