Installing an Analog Modem61203153L2-20 Express 3000 User Manual 7-3Connecting an External Analog ModemTo connect an external analog modem to the Express 3000 use the fol-lowing procedure:If you are connecting an external analog modem that has already beenin use by a PC running Windows 95/98, you are ready to use the ex-ternal analog modem. Enable the external analog modem using eitherInstructions for Connecting an External Analog ModemStep Action1 Ensure that the Express 3000 is connected to the PCvia the provided EIA-232 cable, and that the PC isturned on.2 Ensure that the modem power is off (i.e., it’s notplugged in).3 Connect one end of the second EIA-232 serial cable tothe external analog modem and the other end to theExpress 3000 port labeled MODEM (an illustration of amodem is positioned above this port).Incoming calls must use ISDN phone number 2 forexternal analog applications.4 Connect one end of the RJ-11 to RJ-11 telephone cableto POTS port 2 on the Express 3000 (an illustration of atelephone above a modem is positioned above this port)and the other end to the Dial Line or Line jack on theexternal analog modem. (See the external analogmodem’s documentation to determine which modemjack is the Dial Line or Line jack.)5 Power on the external analog modem (i.e., plug it in).(The external analog modem is now connected to theExpress 3000.)
